If you don't like GNU for some reason and want a Unix experience, why not use FreeBSD, OpenBSD, MINIX 3, OpenIndiana or some other *nix?
You've got proper package management, the ports system, full community support, Linux compatibility layer, jails, PF firewall and zfs on FreeBSD (also, no backdoors for the CIA).
OpenBSD is the most audited and therefore the most secure operating system in existence (thank Theo de Raadt).
Why cripple yourself with an OS that, besides being proprietary, is complete garbage compared to some of the alternatives?
