I was raised on the moderate right with right-wing media traditionalism and all the patriotic trappings.... but it doesn't take too much awareness to realize that it's all empty talk and pretty much everybody in that crowd will talk endlessly about values and freedoms until it applies to someone from another political in-group. I pivoted into libertarianism because it actually takes personal freedom seriously. The LP is a clusterfuck in many ways and it attracts some fringe people but it's an improvement over the blatant Repub. hypocrisy.
