This is my favorite Japan wallpaper. I have like 10gbs of photos of Japan and a few are wallpaper worthy, but I never properly edited them (don't know how to be honest).

It isn't dangerous as long as you don't go to bad neighborhoods.
I have been living in Japan for four years and feel safer at all times then I ever did back home.
As for tips for your trip, go for two weeks at least. One is way too short. I personally think Kyoto is the best city in Japan, but I am biased on that point. You can easily spend two weeks in Tokyo and have a blast. Make sure to plan it out well and do proper research though. It is easy to get lost on Tokyo's subway system, and a taxi can be a pain if you don't speak the language (can even be a pain if you do sometimes).
A few recomendations of things to see and do in or around Tokyo are: Tokyo Tower and/or Sky Tree, Imperial Palace, Asakusa Temple, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Tsukiji Market.
