Another one to read is "Security" by Hunter S. Thompson (1955). It's not drug fueled chaos like Fear and Loathing or DUDE WEED related as most people associate with Hunter. He had a sense of what it meant to be alive and to stake your claims and fight tooth and nail for them at all costs.
