Humans are not fundamentally different from other kinds of matter, each one of us is another machine moving according to the laws of physics, and as such we have no agency, we have no free will, it's all an illusion produced by a heuristic mind that has evolved to solve problems pertaining to a certain environment but is fundamentally blind to its own machinery (without science).
Since I cannot make myself ignorant of these things again, I'm stuck with one of the most basic drives in humans, at least since we became self aware: the fear of death.
I'm committed to escape death, and that commitment grows whenever I see how age and decrepitude affects relatives/pets etc.
