I'm developing a website that specializes in pattern wallpapers. However my idea is a bit different
than what you might think of when you hear of pattern wallpapers.
The main aim of this site is to collect only tileable stencils, ≈ 512x512px in size, but when downloaded and applied they will simply Tile to fill the screen and complete the pattern, making it a seamless wallpaper.
Now, this might not seem very logical at first, but here bear through the following list:
1- Resolution independent. 1 file fits all.
-- Perfect for people who often switch screens.
2- Screens with weird resolutions are not discriminated against.
3- When partially covered by windows and UI the wallpaper's content doesn't feel 'cut of '.
-- I remember having a wallpaper of a girl laying on her back. Her face was in the top left corner of the screen
which was aways covered by my music player. // The 21st century schizoid man never had such a sexy body. // XP
Maybe not the best example, but you get the idea.
4- Also the server shouldn't have to serve huge file sizes, and store 50 versions of the same file.
To keep it unique, the selected wallpapers will have to be more like a 'Paprika' dream - a bunch of objects scattered in space- rather than abstract and geometry based, which is what what most conventional, resolution-dependent patters provide.
I know I'm violating the no-low-res-pix rule, but if you think about it, when used correctly, they are potentially infinite in size.
There are some caveats tho, like full Android support.
Anyway. Are there people who, like me, use these kind of wallpapers? Share?
