I actually like this effect, but I agree that it is somewhat pointless. Maybe you could do something to make it less formulaic and predictable like having the lines fade in or having them steadily change color or making them curve or removing the lines at certain compositionally interesting areas. I don't know. I don't have any specific requests though.
