I've been really lucky with pests besides some fungus gnats which everyone will get sometimes I dodged all the bad ones.
Making a guide is hard since it really is a lot of try and error, I don't even know how many plants I killed over the years. Philodendron and other Aroids work good for me. It's a whole hobby with infinite hours of youtube material to watch. I recommend it, also gives you something to talk about with girls or your aunt.
Do your own research, look up low light, low maintenance plants and pick some you like.
I would also buy more at once since you can be sure that some won't make it and if your only plant dies you are going to be way more frustrated.
