You can improve your chances by making yourself the better option, but people are notoriously poor judges of character, materialistic, etc. You can improve yourself to the point where you are the obvious choice on your own measure of value, but if the other guy is the better choice on her measure of value, it doesn't much matter does it. Related to this is that different people value different things and just because you choose to focus on X and assign it value doesn't mean anyone else cares or owes you shit because of it.
Also probably been mentioned before, but there are plenty of fish in the sea. Your psychological hang-ups on this girl will probably cause more problems than any perceived misjudgement coming from her end.
Improve yourself. If it works out with her, OK. If it doesn't find someone else.
