I know the subway is pretty garbage but I think I'll always prefer that to owning a car. Paying for insurance and upkeep on a car is such a liability. Not to mention the hassle of parking and traffic if you DO want to live near any kind of major city. The subway will get you anywhere in the fucking city for $2.75. And if you're really in a hurry you can always find a cab or rideshare.
