So, I'm in the process of trying out Windows 8. I noticed a slight speed/smoothness improvement over 7, but like many others, the UI irks me.

Any guides to customize this? I.e. removing that start screen, mass-changing icons, etc.

Google only gave me shitty blog reviews.

There is a way to get the desktop wallpaper your start screen wallpaper, thats as far as I want with customizing, My laptop's CPU spiked extremely high after trying out 8.

and that is without any 3rd party software modifying.
I did use oblytile and the metro customization tool before, but they all come with implications. so I'm just keeping it at this.

Change the colour in settings, the icons you can just change where the shortcut is located, if you pin a normal program (NOT FAGGOT APPS) you can just right click and go to file, then change the icon for that file (shortcut file)

boom, done, easy job.

Yeah but the challenge there would be finding that particular set of icons as in the picture, i've been searching for a while now and still nothing

That is all me..

I made the icons myself, using a template. The icons are called Token Icons.
The creator of the initial set uploaded a template and a guide with which you can make your own.
