>>5520153Native Oregonian here. I've camped at Hamaker several times (and had a picnic there with my school friends when I graduated high school). It's in the upper Rogue River basin, in Rogue River National Forest. Not as busy as the better-known Union Creek and Abbott Creek campgrounds, because it's less known and a bit farther of a drive. It has some beautiful meadows as well as being part of the expansive forest all around, and if I recall correctly, you can hike a trail from near the camp that takes you all the way to the spring at the headwaters of the Rogue River, which (as one might expect) is both icy cold and pure enough to drink from.
Hamaker, and all the campgrounds in that area, are heartbreakingly gorgeous in mid-autumn. There are actually thousands of deciduous trees, especially along streams and creeks, and they all turn gold, orange, and red by mid-October. I haven't lived in the area for about a decade now, and I miss that forest every single fall. There are few places I've seen on Earth that can match its beauty.
