"Serial Experiments Lain" tends not to get the respect it deserves as people call it dated and confusing, but if you stop to consider when it was made (1998) many of their predictions about the internet came true in one way or another. You can see many quasi-cyberpunk elements in it if you pay close attention and think about it. But given how weird it is it tends to lose people.
