It's not a sniper anything. The only thing that makes any rifle a "sniper rifle", or more literal a "sniper's rifle" is if a sniper is holding it.
>It's still called a sniper or a sniper variant though. Is straight up wrong.
>And wouldn't that girl be classified as a sharp shooter? No, she was a Viet Cong sniper.
> I confess that I don't remember the scene, but if she wasn't wielding a rifle I wouldn't call her a sniper. She (the sniper) was holding a Type 56 (Chinese AK-47 clone) IIRC. That is an assault rifle (rifled barrel, select fire, detachable box magazine, intermediate cartridge, etc.), even though it was being used by a sniper as a sniper's rifle.
No such thing as a sniper rifle. There's precision rifles, or match rifles, those are as close as you will get to a "sniper rifle" and if they're held by a sniper you might as well call it a sniper's rifle.
>Like how the difference between a sniper and a marksman is how they operate in the field. This is wrong.
Sniper/Spotter are legitimate roles and MOSs, Marksman is a rating received on a particular weapon (Expert, Marksman, Sharpshooter), Expert being the best, but not a huge deal. Having completed Sniper School, that's a big fucking deal.
