A lot of my friends and family members have joined the forces and have all said that they have been all the better for it.
Teaches you a trade (if you're worried about that)
Gives you a sense self respect few get to experience
Allows you to experience hundreds of things you wouldn't be able to in a civy lifestyle
Lastly, gives you a immense sense of pride that I has been described to me as indescribable.
I got turned down from the RAF earlier last year due to medical reasons and I've never felt such envy for all my friends who got in.
The only piece of advice I could give to you (based off of the experiences and stories I've heard from said friends and family) is to try and go the bit further and join the Marines. If not for job security but for survivability. Much better training and far better prospects for your career development in the armed forces.
