Hide the desktop icons and use a rainmeter launcher/dock if you need those programs that close at hand.
At least get a start orb that matches the rest of the icons even if you refuse to change anything else.

The only comparable experience I had was a named folder reappearing on my desktop.

Turned out I had it as a directory for saved Audacity files or something, and when I opened the program it would recreate the path to search it for files.

I suggest deleting it, then opening programs one by one to see if it comes up again.

It's a nice wallpaper, but it doesn't quite fit. I'd suggest blowing it up to fit (losing a small amount of the picture), or finding another one.

Your icons/shortcuts, although organized, do obscure the picture and lead to a disorganized appearance at a distance. Consider sorting them into appropriate directories and libraries to free up desktop space. All the programs you use frequently can be pinned to the start menu or taskbar for easy access.

I'd recommend hiding the taskbar. That's just me.

Rainmeter is easy smoke and mirrors to spruce the place up. If you don't want to fully rice out your computer, rainmeter will still make it look sharp. I put on the least original arrangement of enigma (a rainmeter theme) and arcs (a rainmeter clock) you've ever seen, and any company I had over was stunned. They asked what OS I was using.

Pic is my desktop from about a week ago. A clear desktop with a little tasteless rainmeter goes a fair way.

If you're in love with those icons and want to keep them, I'd put them in the clouds. The bottom of that picture is visually loud, and the icons make it hard to see. The clouds are much quieter, making your icons less obstructive, with the added bonus they instantly stand out against the background

Is there an easy way to change the navigation icons in Windows 7 without using Kishan Bagaria's Windows 7 Navigation Buttons Customizer?

I simply cannot get this thing to work. I closed all applications, ran it as administrator, change the icon in the program, but the icons don't get changed anywhere else. I've tried restarting. Checked out the other icon tools on Nanami but none of them seemed to work with changing the OS navigation buttons, or at least I couldn't figure out how to get them to do so.

What is the best wallpaper website these days? I used to use wallbase back in the day, but apparently it died? and it's replacement seems incomplete I think? I don't trust the sticky since it still has wallbase up there as a recommendation.

Pretty much I just use anime and video game wallpapers. What I liked about wallbase was that it was a one site fits all kind of thing and I never had to bother with using other websites. I want a website like that, because fuck searching multiple websites for wallpapers.

I changed it, but it's SP8 (Look for it on Deviantart). It's easy t modify, just add new tabs (There is a tutorial for that on Deviantart, and it's really easy) and you need to change from the splitter settings the colors of the volume and seek bar, icons need to be changed with Photoshop or something.

The player is not part of the desktop, it's just AIMP with a skin. I use to put the player there, over a shut down, restart button. There's also a weather widget

Nothing.

There is nothing inherently wrong with toothbrushes either. But it does become a problem when you stick them in your ass and make your little brother brush his teeth with it. This is more or less what you have done with your Rainmeter.

Also if you've got enough OSX tricks up your sleeve to make a guide I'd love to see your desktop. And an update to this guide would be great, there's no mention of imagemagick or flavours, which have become a huge part of osx theming lately. I'd work on it with you if you'd want, though I'm only very good with Mountain Lion and Mavericks

here is my current desktop
the wallpaper goes on a daily rotation from a small selection of my collection
there are some tricks i'm not sure everyone knows, like shadow-less windows

on yosemite i dont see that using the sart file tools is a necessity, since they made it look pretty neat
maybe to remove the shadow, but whatevs
also you can switch it to be dark, but most apps are not supported yet

You can actually go very far with mac ricing, you just have to dedicate to the artFile game and work with flavours. And then from a desktop standpoint you can use geektool to display images modified by http://www.imagemagick.org leading to really cool customizations. I'm currently working on learning how to use imagemagick and finding new ways to use geektool.

I'm having problem with Stylish, it just won't work properly. I tried a lot things, like reinstalling Firefox, using lots of different userstyles, trying different versions of firefox, different versions of stylish, and nothing helped. Any ideas as to what could be an issue? Pic related.
