>>6078394It might be for /g/ but I have taken a break for now. Nobody has requested and we are just talking so its within the rules.
Well its dependent on your operating system. People look at firewalls and proxy's before they look at the most important thing, Teh OS.
If you use windows. I would always recommend Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I prefer to use Malware-bytes for personal scanning and Bitdefender IS for overall net scanning and protection. I use a high end NetGear router with a firewall and every connection run through is via a VPN I setup myself. Lots of people download free software packages to do this for them. They are already fooled into spyware already.
The other setup I use is GNU/Linux; preferably OpenSUSE 11.3 x64 GNOME. I use a the same router ran through a closed server with multiple hardisks and firewalls running in RAID. I use a boot disk that has tons and tons of software packages I can utilize for anonymity and protection. of-course I don't do anything illegal, hell I dont even torrent but its overall freedom to express and freedom to surf is whats important to me. I am a supporter of open internet. Very much anti anything that sets its goals to close, limit or monitor the web.
I do use a .exe based software suite that encrypts anything I want to share and without the master password its impossible to get into. Only thing you can do if you dont have the password is delete it.
Furthermore to protect yourself is all based on the correct things to use. There are people in /g/ that can help too but majority of them there have never spent a day or week in the field actually programming, building, deciphering or diagnosing a IT related problem.
At the end of the day nothing is fool proof. Nothing is safe. Not even the FBI or whatever agency you want to mention is immune from attack. Use the internet as if people are watching because there's a high chance some day that will be how it is. Lets hope not.
