I don't usually use them since I'm on linux, but in terms of getting some to match your theme there I'd just suggest editing them yourself. It shouldn't be too hard to apply a filter of some sort over top and get them to be in the same color palette.

I'd get rid of all the shortcuts or change them so there are fewer and smaller. I'd might recommend a dock. Also all the shortcuts should probably all be the same style. (like all icons or like the ones you have on the sides of your second monitor.)

the bar, from left to right, is the window label (just the currently selected window), workspace labels, clock, and weather

but the systembarex plugin does what you're thinking of, it's visible in this old screenshot

the only caveat is there is a 1 px line between the tasks

Yeah I know. Back then I distributed binaries to a few people if I wasn't able to talk them through building it in an hour. That's not a general solution though, and really nasty. It could conceivably break your installation now considering that distribution packed every .dll ncmpcpp needed to run because I had no idea which of them were present in the default installation. That includes the basic cygwin .dll's, library .dll's... Basically if you follow the instructions you end up replacing some of your installation with parts of a cygwin x86 installation made on an x86 Windows 7 installation years ago. If it doesn't fuck up installations already, it probably will soon. Plus it's useless for x64 cygwin, and it advocates a two-year-old mpd version and an ncmpcpp version almost as old when the newest are easily had if you just resolve dependencies, ./configure&&make&&make install.

Yeah, that's true. It's still followable, and you can really ignore the mpd bit and just resolve dependencies for that yourself. Its ncmpcpp section brushes over a few pitfalls that took me an hour or so to figure out, so it expediates the process.

It's also important to know that you should use the latest package now - I haven't been able to get the git version to build at all.

I actually have my own guide in markdown somewhere that I might brush up sometime.

Isn't there a Win8 version of Windows Style Builder? Regardless, check out nanami-tan.info if you haven't already -- a large majority of things that work on Win7 still work on Win8 besides a few visual styles and such.
