>(*) as in, the game contained both previous versions and moreThe plane is NOT a Pe-2 (and of course as you correctly noted, not an Il-2 either), but instead a german Messerschmidt ME-110 (D or E version iirc) "Zerstörer" heavy fighter - as opposed to the bomber Pe-2. You can tell by the shape of the engines, the rear gunner's position, the rudders, the straight elevators, the lack of fuselage windows and the typically german boxy canopy. From different angles, you could probably also see the Balkenkreuz and Swastikas on the plane, which usually would not be painted on the (russian) Petlyakov Pe-2.
The plane that I was shooting at is an F-4 Phantom D, which had just before instagibbed my wingman with a BVR AIM-7, and then botched its mach 4000 gun run on my plane (travelling at roughly 300 KIAS, probably less).
