The first one, the book of Satan, is sort of a summary of the satanic way of thinking in a "10 commandment" kind of way. It just list some of the basic principles of satanism.
The second on, the book of Lucifer, go more in depth on 12 of those basic principles. It describe the man as its only god and "advocates indulging in each of these 'sins' as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification" instead of promising an afterlife reward.
The third one, the book of Belial, is the theory of satanic ritual : it explain how they work and what mindset you should be in to do them.
The last one, the book of Leviathan, give the actual invocations that are used during said rituals.
Thats what the other anon were saying by "theistic or non-theistic religion" : you don't have to follow all books. I personally strongly agree with the first two books, but don't feel like following the last two, as ( even though they don't do human sacrifice as many peoples believe ) they are kind of extreme compared to more regular ceremonies.
As for the Satan of satanism being different from the christian Satan, the one of satanism is more of a force of nature, the one of fulfillment, than the Christian one.
In the end the whole satanism could be just describe as "Do what you want as long as you hurt no one".
There is many more in it than that but this is the "golden rule" of satanism.
