SD refers to 480p aka the standard definition at the time the term was coined(before HD was a standard).
It does NOT refer to whatever may be the standard resolution of a given point in time besides what is mentioned above.
In "var x" years when QHD becomes standard, HD will still be referred to as High Definition even though by that times standards it looks like a pile of digitized horse semen and SD will still be standard definition even though we will have to teach our children the concept of non flatscreen TVs and associated resolutions.
