To get where he/she wants (also assuming he/she is trying to make an "average" by today's standard game) is going to require plenty of practice and hard work, but that's just how all skills are honed, and yeah, it's also gonna require a lot of time and most likely some extra people. Humble beginnings and what not. I mean just make some basic shit, get on forums, meet some people with similar interest, throw some ideas around, and try to assemble some people to make some shit for when you want to start getting serious. Till then, it's best to get a foot in the door, and to get some familiarity with the development process so that when you do meet people who'd want to join in, you won't come off as a nob.
