I highly suggest getting a pupper. They'll be your ultimate joy. Their unconditional love, and pure excitement just to be with and around you is fulfilling in a way.
To meet friends, just ask your coworkers to hang out, throw out the idea that you want to go out and eat with everyone after work, everyone will get to spend some time together outside of work. Or just hit up the local bar or music scene. It's easy to make friends there.
Take a couple days off of work, and any other responsibilities, and just relax and read your books.
