All of mid range colors and light are almost intact, that I why you keep the vibrance. All of the darkest black areas are leveled up to appear more greyish than black. As an expert, you'd get a perfectly "normal" pic just by bringing the black parts down again.
So no fog or wathever, you can do that with virtually any pic.
