Probably because your chosen icons size is too large. Right click on your desktop and under the "View" tab change the icon size.

It sounds like to me you typed a command wrong and deleted files you shouldn't have. Can you navigate back to %userprofile%\AppData\Local and verify if the IconCache.db file is there?

It's there, i have to type C:\Users\OLIVER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer, for some reason the appdata folder isnt even there in the OLIVER folder, which is strange. I can still access it though if i type that in the url

The iconcache is there, yea. But my icons look like pic related. Look at the taskbar too. Also, all folders are invisible and even picture thumbnails are invisible too

Also what version of windows are you using? The guide you followed was intended for windows vista/7 installs. Also it's a good idea to do a backup before you start ricing especially in more 'rigid' OSes like Windows

You should really just use the command line for this:

>dir (you should see a lot of iconcache files)
>taskill explorer.exe
>del iconcache*
>dir (should be no iconcache files left)
>shutdown /r
I'm in my Linux instance right now but that should work to reset the cache. If its still fucked we have to go deeper.

Your icons are likely all still in there somewhere. Something you did must have made your items forget where the icon is located. You'll have to go to each item individually and refind all the old icons. That or restore your computer with a boot disk.

Also your Local directory should still have the IconCache.db file, you must have done some nasty shit. If using the command line to ensure that all the files are deleted/existing doesn't work then you should probably just do a fresh install of windows.

Make sure cmd.exe is launched as administrator. You can foobar things pretty hard with the command line (especially shitty windows command line). This is why OSes hide the command line from the general user.

They're doing whats known as 'ricing' or just highly customizing their desktop environment. Generally you use rainmeter on windows and manually manage packages on linux. These little desktops tweaks generally don't use a crazy amount of resources (unless, for examples you're running a very graphics heavy rainmeter theme thats written poorly) also go look at the desktop thread in /trash/

I used Openbox for years until I realized I was making it behave like a tiling window manager anyway which I realized was pointless and I should just use an actual tiling manager. Openbox will always be my second favorite, but I don't think I could go back to a floating window manager. I just started using i3 a month ago after using Openbox for probably six years.

I meant to say 4.10 is for all windows, 4.12 tells you how to configure it for specific windows. The dark terminal colors are just colors I set in the preferences for the terminal I use called Terminator. You can set colors like that in xterm and urxvt in your .Xresources file. I also have a transparent dropdown version set up for quick little task.
