>>6774706I took my car to a body shop for a final damage estimate so my insurance can total it out. Some faggot ran a red light and nailed my driver's door. I really miss having a car, and doing the six and a half mile walk home from the shop drove home just how convenient and efficient having a car is. But then I wondered, is a car more efficient than me? Since I've got nothing else to do with my time besides applying for jobs, I did some math.
A baconator is 980 calories, but for the sake of easy math, I'll round it to 1kcal or one kilo calorie. 1 kcal happens to be 4184 joules of energy, and 4184 joules converts to 3.96 (4 for simplicity) btu of energy. One gallon of gas is 114,000 btu. This means it would take 28,500 baconators to equal one gallon of gasoline in terms of energy.
My camry, when it was still safe to drive, did 39 miles to the gallon on the highway. I'm pretty sure however, I can do way more than 39 miles with 28 thousand baconators. In fact, for my weight, it takes about 75 calories to walk one mile. Multiply this by 39 and we get 2925 calories, or just shy of 3 kcals. This means that I can do 39 miles on three baconators, which equates to 12 btu, or 1/9500 the energy it takes my car to do the same.
You guys probably don't give a shit, but I think it's pretty rad that our bodies are so efficient. The human body is pretty fucking amazing, and you're pretty much always underestimating what you're capable of.
