Keeping in mind also that David Lynch (twin Peaks, for example) is probably more twisted than Giger in an absolute sense, but that Frank Herbert himself was intimately involved in the original Dune movie. Neither Lynch nor Herbert have ever been accused of not being vastly more intelligent than most any human ever born ... they went to Giger because they knew exactly what they were looking for.
And, he delivered.
It's really a shame that Terry Gilliam wasn't involved, also. Even just as a casual consultant.
Anyway, another interesting detail about Giger is his incredible love and devotion to & with his second wife, Carmen. Few people find true love and a soulmate in life. Those two found each other, and that's a significant part of the surreal, terrible beauty in Giger's work.
