How do you know you're being served the right source code, for example, for the linux kernel? It's not like you can just hash it against the mainline since you're almost definitely using a custom set of patches, as in the case of gentoo sources. Or do you read in full the source code of everything, yourself?
Gentoo is great for security, but not that kind of security, dummy.
