>>6941921I thought I should contribute instead of just plain shitposting. My bad that that was the first one I came across, I better delete it from my collection just to satisfy you and make you feel all warm and snugly inside. Do you like... know, if Poe said this? If he didn't should I delete it as well? I might as well to save you your time. What a nice and kind thing I have done for you, that which you should be grateful for. I expect a prompt Thank You.
>>6941711I do have to point out that you being very literal in your definitions concerning philosophy. I think it should be argued in the abstract so we can apply it to any and all, as best we can.
My original qualm with Nietzsche is that he uses intentionally confusing language or makes blatantly unclear statements, this quote being an example of both. It's implied that being alive is suffering and that surviving is a goal or aspiration that we want, and that we can't survive without a purpose or meaning that we attribute to our suffering.
I do concede that you do need a will for survival. I should have focused on the word, Survive, instead where my previous hypothetical still stands correct in the context of the quote. Furthermore, you can live your entire life, survive, without a purpose. It doesn't happen very often, granted, but it does happen where an individual reaches the end and realizes it's over and there was no purpose to it whatsoever. They have regrets and no purpose, yet they survived. That is different from survival and I falsely equated the two.
Now I chose the words Alive and Live because people do differentiate between being not dead and the verb. They also commonly associate 'Living it up' or 'Live the life' with being alive with meaning and happiness. They are different words with different meanings that relate but they aren't interchangeable and they don't equal each other.
