Most people "try linux" with Ubuntu (or one of the hundreds of variants), or, less commonly, Fedora. If you hang out with people who have used Linux workstations for a few years or more, they'll usually make fun of you if you use those, however.
Be warned, "wanting to try linux" is far, far away from "having a riced tiling wm and no I'm not posting my configs."
