But mostly I like papes that are very gentle and easy to look at - dark and muted colors, soft gradients, no patterns or excessively bright spots.

Ok last one - i do like bright neon/rainbow colors against black backgrounds, but keep it fairly minimal.

Just tried this OP and am absolutely amazed by how well it works. Turned a 1080p wallpaper I had into nearly 8k and it's night and day difference. Not trying to shill, but am just amazed how well this worked out.
