If you happen to run into an issue, you'll find help easier with ubuntu.
If you happen to WANT TO CUSTOMIZE, google how to customize your application, 99% of the time it's not distro-specific. How you customize your desktop will be the same in debian/arch/fedora/centos/etc 99% of the time.
I'm using fedora on my laptop daily, and ubuntu/centos on my server, and i can tell you from experience, ubuntu is the way to go always unless you got a specific niche to fill.
