I'm a very amateur photographer so probably someone else can answer your question better, but from what I understand it's called "noise." Nighttime or dark pictures are often very noisy naturally, but you can highlight the level of noise by playing around with the exposure, contrast, and brightness in post editing. On that particular picture I didn't add any extra noise.

oh sweet, i have actually seen "noise" while editing pictures but never played with it. Thank you for answering. I really like when people use it in pics... it makes things feel more dreary.

These were all taken in a fairly small area of The Fan, which is sort of next to Carytown, yeah.

That particular one was taken on Monument, looking down Strawberry St.

I live like half an hour south of Richmond in the suburbs, and it's such a comfy city. Have you ever been to the Lewis ginter light show in winter? Seems like something you'd like because of how you use lights in your other photos! Cheers, anon

I didn't know Lewis Ginter had a light show. Do you know if their lights are still up? I agree that Richmond is a comfy city. I just moved here a year ago and love it.

Ah the light show just ended actually :/ it comes back around every year right after Thanksgiving and lasts until January. I strongly suggest going next year though! I'll drop some pics my bf took this year when we went
