The USSR experienced the fastest economic growth in human history, going from a largely agrarian subsistence farming based economy to the second largest industrial superpower other than America. It has only been surpassed by China since then. Also after WWII, average caloric intake by Soviet citizens surpassed the US average until the 80s. The CIA even wrote a report on it, iirc.
Also, plenty of polls have been done in ex-socialist countries and large amounts of people would prefer the USSRs dictatorships over the poverty that capitalism has brought, especially in the poorer countries.
So, to say that nobody wants it and that it has never been effective is extremely intellectually dishonest.
