During the course of tripping several during a summer, I placed them carefully in locations for maximum effect for visibility & lighting. Sometimes acid, sometimes mushrooms, on occasion a combination. Really fun, for example, to drop acid, get about 3 or 4 hours into it, then dose dose up on mushrooms. You get that harsh, wild chemical ride from LSD, then the natural organic ride on mushrooms and a whole second peak ... really makes for a very mellow landing as the Sun finally comes up.
In later years I collected a good bit of computer art. But, drowning yourself into a well-lit, large painting or art or photo on a wall is a vastly different experience that just doesn't capture on a computer screen. You need different art made from light for that.
Nice side benefit: I worked in several art galleries for about half a decade helping to arrange art & sculptures and arrange the lighting and gallery space to bring out their best qualities. Very fun job and I could never have done it so well if I hadn't spent a few dozen trips studying art and walking through art galleries. If I could have turned that into a steady, well paying job with benefits, I would still be doing that today.
