>>7278865It's a terribly unfortunate situation, but don't let your rage consume you. Pitbulls have and extremely high potential for destruction since they were bred for blood sport. In general pet owners are ultimately responsible for their pets, and given the pitbull breed's strength and aggression, its clear lack in training, and your family's unwillingness to take proper responsibility for controlling the dog, something going terribly wrong was inevitable.
A pitbull at its worst truly is terrible and absolutely warrants concern. That is why you see so many people hating the the breed. But ultimately it's the owners that get and keep the dogs. There's a demand for them, and there are incidents like yours because the owners are not equipped mentally for the responsibility.
Get away from those people. Even if they're good people when it comes to other things, they are still maintaining a creature that has already killed something that was dear to you. If you want them to understand the wrong that they have allowed to happen, then I suggest you simply cut them out of your lives. From this thread it sounds like they lack empathy and maturity.
tl;dr The people deciding to keep a pitbull are still responsible for their pet's actions, just like every other pet owner. If someone keeps their pet snake outside their terrarium and the snake bites someone or their pet, then the snake owner is responsible. If you cannot talk sense to those people, then get as far away as possible and warn others if need be.
