In windows you can use walpaper engine
In linux you can use xwinwrap, gifsicle and use this command:
$ xwinwrap -g widthxheight -ov -ni -s -nf -- gifview -w WID location_here -a

I tried to use ffmpeg to chop a bit of video and convert it into a gif, but it looks pretty terrible. does anyone have any advice for conversions?

Since I got a custom sh script on Linux i3wm working, which can Display any common video format as a wallpaper and auto adjusts to all of the monitors one is using, I'm feeling generous. I have about 4 lain themed gif wallpapers that look quite nice. But apparently the image resolution is too small , whatever that means.
Any help?

I meant uploading the gif on /wg/
The damn site won't let me upload muh gifs.
The script works a-okay and has no issue with any size of gif. I didn't make it myself, but refit it for my own purposes.
