any way to make windows a bit more interesting? idk anything about themes or anything ive only used basic windows all my life.
you can see in the last thread i had just learned how to make everything on my desktop invisible so thats how basic i am ( i was the ralsei wallpaper)

i use a small version of nerd-fonts for my terminal, it has every symbol you could ever need and it looks near imo

what do you mean by having terminal in there?
apt-get install neofetch for system information if you mean that.
i don't think kde is that great to rice/modify but i could be wrong desu
look for some themes for your DE to begin

I'm building a new PC and I'd really like to see how it's done. I think it's actually super useful to show that kind of info like temp and time alongside your specs and uptime.

On youtube there is a nice 3 part tutorial if you type i3wm, easy to follow and gets you started with customizing. But if you're building a PC for gaming then you shouldn't bother with linux, maybe dual boot for fun or soemthing. Check out rainmeter for windowns.

don't get me wrong, i am all for clean desktops but if it only displays your wallpaper it's no rice, nor a desktop.
it's a copy of your current wallpaper that happens to be made by fist scaling it on your desktop and then take a screenshot of it

Got this macbook for free as a gift from a friend that had just bought a newer one. Honestly, installing Linux was very straightforward. The only hitch is the wifi chipset; it uses a proprietary driver so in my case it was necessary to connect my phone via USB and tether so I could install the kernel module needed for wifi. A non-issue if you've got an Ethernet dongle, or a router that allows USB connections. Other than that, it was no different than installing on any other machine. The cool part is how it boots: the apple bootloader is preserved separate from whatever Linux bootloader you choose (grub, in my case) so the machine boots Linux by default, and when I want to run macOS I just reboot and hold alt(cmd) and select my macOS partition in the macOS bootloader.

As for distribution choice, I settled on Ubuntu for my mac purely for the sake of time. I wanted the hotkeys for keyboard backlight, screen backlight, volume, media keys, etc to work with minimal dicking about, and Ubuntu is the easiest distro to make that happen. The big upside is that the keys all send the standard signal they ought to send (vol up sends the XF86RaiseVolume, etc) so if you do want to use other distros like Arch or Gentoo, it won't take long to create a config file for something like xbindkeys to get them working, and then just add a line to .xinitrc or your window manager config if it allows for launching programs from the config to automatically start xbindkeys. I just prefer having all of that done for me at the system level so it doesn't matter what DE/WM I'm running, it just werks™

It also bears mentioning that this is only the case for older models. Don't expect such a smooth transition to Linux on anything made after, I'd say, 2016. Mine is a 2014 air, but it's honestly not very far behind current gen macbooks. A brand new macbook pretty much just has a slightly better i5 and I think a slightly better resolution than 1440x900, but everything else about it is fucking worse. Keyboard, touchpad, etc. If you're going to buy a used one, I highly recommend 2012-2015 pro, or late 2013 (aka the 2014 model) macbook air. Just make sure you look for one with the most ram you can find as that shit is soldered in post 2012. (Replaceable ram is the only reason the 2012 mbp makes the list, as 2015 is basically better in every way for a similar price)

Thanks. You can actually replicate this exactly on any other tiling wm; just use programs that allow borders and to change their colours to be uniform. Three of the windows in the desktop are just terminals.

don't know what exactly you mean by that. bash is pretty minimal imo

start by tinkering around, put a custom theme on, just search for custom themes, add some custom icons etc.
if you are completely new to linux just do this for a while, learn a bit about the terminal and have fun, you can do really cool stuff without jumping right into configuring dotfiles

you can still change the colors and font before compiling on v25, its just harder. it draws foreground and background from x. if you swap some of the fg and bg in between the section i highlighted you can have it match your terminal better.

I recommend desktopOK and enable the icon hide feature. hide icons after 5 sec bby default and makes them reappear after you click on the screen.

has a load of other nice features like saving icon layouts too.

the anon uses urxvt as terminal, in arch it's rxvt-unicode iirc
it looks ugly at first but you can easily do whatever you want with it.
the WM is i3-gaps, a fork of i3, one of the best documented tiling window manager out there and a good start.
the statusbar is Polybar, i3 comes with it's own one but Polybar can do much more than just display statics, it's also easy to customize and very well documented.
the file manager is Ranger, if you are familiar with Vim it's very intuitive, if not, get familiar with vim, you'll have a lot of dotfiles to configure and vim makes things so much easier.
the browser is Firefox and for 4chan he uses 4chanX if i guess, maybe it's just a custom 4chan css.
