I used to be a contrarian too but I've matured, and after hating the idea of comic book/superhero movies I actually tried watching one and loved it.
They aren't absolutely groundbreaking for film, but they aren't trying to be.
It all depends on what a film is trying to accomplish.
I feel like most people that bandwagon hate these movies haven't actually watched any, or they have but go into it wanting to hate it, or have seen ten minutes of Age Of Ultron on TV and assume every superhero movie is just simply a guy quipping and mindless action for two hours when that just isn't the case.
