And even before that MS was few steps ahead when it comes to games, drivers, big boys (nvidia, amd, *type name of your favorite gaming company*, etc) support, everything works right after plugging it in and so on.
I also had my time when I was really into customization - but let's be honest now. Scroll up and see that when it comes to linux users you can see mostly Frankenstein's monsters. If something looks nice, it's probably wallpaper. Remove that and all you can see is shit.
I used linux myself for programming, but now when Windows has WSL I don't need it anymore. Even more, with next update WSL will support dockers, so linux users will have to pray really hard to Torvalds to not disappear completely (or at least lose last arguments in this win-linux war).
Btw. It always made me laugh, that there is a huge dedicated wiki, that tells you what doesn't work in your game. Priceless *laughs in microsoft*.
When it comes to customization of Windows it's true there is no much you can do - but then again, it just looks good on its own. I can recommend installing Wallpaper Engine for a fresh experience, but please take your time to find something that feels good and is not invasive. Their library is full of shit content.
Tho linux is still needed and there is a place where it's better than anything else. Servers.
