Thats awesome. Im not op, but im just starting into jazz and could do some recommending. Im listening to mile davis atm, i like that nightly, low vibe. Search Flamenco Sketches from the Kind of Blue album, thats the style im looking for. And i really enjoy bass as well, any recommendations you can give me are appreciated.

Hey Anon, just rechecked this thread since posting, I'd written it off as dead, truthfully. I got into jazz a couple years ago with big band, and branched into nearly everything since then. Swing, afrobeat, avant-garde, bebop, calypso, etc. I'd love some album recommendations across any aspect of the genre, if you're still hopefully lurking around.

At random, some of my favourites are Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Desmond, Dean Martin, and Oscar Peterson.

I'm in a similar position. I'm getting into jazz without much outside guidance. I'm still familiarizing myself with the big names.

The albums I've found that have really grabbed me, so far, are:

Chet Baker Sings - Chet Baker
Dear Old Stockholm - John Coltrane
'Round About Midnight- Miles Davis
Workin' - Miles Davis Quintet
Portrait in Jazz - Bill Evans
Tempo Di Chet - Paolo Fresu
No Problem - Tristan Melia Trio

There's also a compilation album on Spotify called "Hard Bop 101" that I've really enjoyed.

Believe that’s Big Jay McNeely.
From my hometown Watts, California and known for his eccentric playing.
Found out recently my ex girlfriends grandpa worked with him for the U.S. Mail. The stories of his music and performances are amazing.

Oh boy, if you liked Miles chill noir stuff then you'll simply love listening to Miles' Generique album. It's an original score to a french noir movie. The entire album is a lovely listen but my this is my favorite track:

Finally, Chet Baker's Alone Together is another track that strikes me as fitting the whole noir, sad, nighttime aesthetic that we've established so far in this post:

I hope these suggestions are what you're looking for! I would also like to note that Bill Evans is the same pianist on Miles' Kind of Blue as is Chet Baker's Alone Together recording. Bill Evans' playing is pivotal to the noir vibe both of those tracks give off and I hope you do some more digging into Bill Evan's personally recorded music. He quickly becomes many peoples' favorite jazz pianist and it's for good reason. His playing speaks to people in ways that are difficult to describe. I'd say it's close to dream-like.
