>>7530824I'm honestly considering it, the only thing holding me back is that there's too many people and they're trying to emulate the west too much.
I've kinda wanted to be a monk since I was 7. We went to this temple, and there was this super old tree with emaciated 60+ y/o monks sitting around it, reading scripture. Felt like the right place to be. These were dudes that just stopped caring, to the point that if the temple couldn't provide them food, they'd die, and they all seemed ok with it.
We went there again about five years ago, I didn't see a single monk around there. But the temple was swarmed with people, felt like the sanctity of the place was violated. There were shops set up all around the vicinity, selling idols, pictures, etc. Just didn't feel correct.
Was talking to my boss a couple weeks ago and we were talking about leaving America and going back to our respective countries. I think we feel the same way about America. Life is too complicated here for no reason. We surround ourselves with constant reminders that there's people better off than us and that the means to better ourselves is _just_ out of reach. Life here feels like a constant race, always something to work towards and beat yourself up about, you can't just be happy with who you are right now without being bombarded with information of the changing world. It's all just so tiresome. You either adapt or slow everything down to your pace. Feels like the only winning move is to not play. It's all just so tiresome.
I'm gonna try out the monk thing after I move to India.
