When I first looked at this I didn't notice him pointing and I thought the kid just wandered into the wrong place at the wrong time.
The idea of being that soldier and having to make the snap decision between forgoing an advantageous ambush opportunity and meeting the beast in the open on it's terms with just a fucking sword and a spear; or allowing a child to be torn to shreds. Shit makes the hairs on my neck stand up..
