>>76035412015? No no no no. I would say that the golden age of internet was 1997-2007. I can maybe give you up to 2010-12? With the advent of smart phones with social media and ubiquitous internet, the internet has become a boring, unimaginative, predictable dump full of attention whores and merchants of crap.
Those of us who found and populated the web at its inception, invested in it by putting our best efforts into it - after all - it was an empty void - and what you got out of it was what you put in it. So with very little, slow, rudimentary and belabored resources we did a ton of stuff. It took effort and ingenuity. You had to be clever. Today every asshole is connected. Any asshole can contribute and they want to contribute, but the contribution is effortless and pointless. There is no real investment on behalf of these contributors and therefore, what they have put forth is crap.
I really do regret not keeping all my old PCs and the data on them. It would be a testament to what was. A stark contrast of what is. The world slid down the slippery slopes.
This thread is gold. It should be part of a mandatory course in internet history/literature.
