>>7717817>Did you ever realise how popular it would be?Not in the slightest. At that point in time, I was doing little commissions like that for like $20, so while I had every hope that one day my work would do well, that was still a pipe dream's pipe dream.
I think I was just incredibly lucky. Posting it at a time where both my style was appreciated, but also at a time where people were starved for ultrawide wallpapers so they took what they could get. So it ended up being a perfect storm for it to do well I guess. Though my social media is severely lacking compared to how many people are familiar with my work.
I wish I knew what people like about it so much, because with every one-hit-wonder I'm still trying to chase that success. Personally, I think it's a good piece, but I feel like I was still really inexperienced when I made it.
I've had some of my stuff be pretty popular, but not as much as that one. On the one hand I'm extremely happy with how it did, but on the other, I feel like it might have happened to me too early when I didn't have much else for people besides that, so they couldn't look at what else I could do, and so I'd have more experience with this sort of thing. Still, the good outweighs the bad.
I've seen it pop up in the most random places. Youtube, battlestation threads, arcade-sticks, nightclubs and concerts using it for promos, I've seen a few people wearing it on shirts and stuff (which came from my shop), and I've even seen friends of mine who don't even know I made it have it as their computer wallpapers a few times. It was always fun trying to convince them that I was the dude that made it.
But yeah, sorry for the long ass blog-post. There's a bunch of thoughts and stuff surrounding it that's hard to just sum up. Thanks for asking!
