Its weird to me that somebody, at some point, built these things.

What has no gone to ruin and decay, was at one point a new construction. Many people worked on this. The materials were sourced, the plans were drawn up by experienced people, and the labor was done by workers.

How long ago? Why is it in disrepair? At some point, SOMEONE had energy and motivation and money to build these things.

I am not a history buff but I am pretty sure it happened a lot in a socialistic regime: A lot of plain, basic, utilitarian buildings built and then not maintained. Throw some time into the equation and this is the result.

This is actually a Kowloon themed arcade warehouse in Japan

I got to visit but sadly it closed the following year

I agree. I've been on a big Japanese ruin kick lately. There's just something about it I can't quite put my finger on? Maybe it's the foreign lettering seen here and there that gives it an exotic quality that domestic ruins can't match?
