I just don't get how anyone likes 2049. It's not good sci-fi - it leaves the topic of android morality largely unexplored. I am not expecting GITS here, but "we can make babby" is just so far behind the curve.
But the biggest problem is there is literally nothing happening for 90% of the runtime. No dialogue, nothing advancing the plot, no details to explore in the scene, no world-building, just emptiness with Ryan Gosling standing around. This is such a huge departure from the original with its living and breathing world, you could have just as well called it "Wood Appreciator 3000" and not pretended to be a sequel.
I get how it can appeal to zoomers who want to pop two xannies, kick back and drool over themselves for 2.5 hours while enjoying the visuals, but is that all there is to it?
