Even /hr/ with its 8 MB limit cripples most 4K papes. Filesize limits need to be increased, or another site is required with higher limits. A lot of 2560x1440 papes I make are over 6 MB up to 10 or even 12 MB when saved as .png files, even with aggressive and CPU-intensive optimization. If I want to post them here or /hr/, I have to resave them as 99% or even 97% JPEGs. And, they're usually "good enough" with minimal artifacts, assuming I did it right at the .png level.
But, you're also dealing with 'tards who think waifu2x upscales "are just fine." Especially on their $4000 smart phone's 8 inch 4K screen. They lack any ability to notice the image rape and are polluting the fuck out of high res/high quality image archives all over the internet.
If you want quality 4k/5K/8K images, you're going to have to make them yourself. Collect and archive all high quality images you can lay your hands on so you have quality source material to work from. It only gets worse by the week every month we fall into the future. We live in a world full of ignorant 'tards who have no idea what the fuck they're doing, and there are websites dedicated to separating them from their money with no moral responsibility to actually providing the quality they falsely advertise.
