A lot of Steam games have "trading cards" that drop randomly into your Steam profile's inventory after a certain amount of time.
You could sit idle in the game, or even the launcher and still get them.
Some people just buy a game to idle in the main menu to get trading cards and never play again. I'm just speculating here, but I think that you can even get a few cards to drop even before you hit the 2hr limit for refunds, so some people can just buy a game, idle for like an hour or so to get a few cards, then refund the game and do it again. There's an automated system to keep people from abusing the refund system, but I imagine it's not too out there to assume some people still do just for retarded trading cards on a virtual marketplace.
