>>7938715it’s a fairly philosophical and metaphysical author. heavily influenced by surrealism and ultraism, as well as responding to Schopenhauer, Spinoza, and other philosophers. almost all of Borges writing is high concept and low action. it’s a great author for when you’re feeling reflective but requires some formal education. this is not just outright snobbery as much as that Borges also included in a lot of his work winks of humour at the expense of pseudo-intellectuals, politicians, and blunt-minded critics. there’s a detective stories compilation he made with Adolfo Bioy Casares that’s really good as a historical review of the genre (it’s really cool to see all the different styles side by side) and also includes “La Muerte y la Brújula” which is my favourite Borges story. PS: I was totally going to write this as the Rick and Morty copy pasta but backed out at the last minute.
